Justin is a Partner in Christopher & Lee Ong with a specialisation in equity capital markets, mergers and acquisitions and corporate advisory.

His equity capital markets experience includes advising on multiple significant Rule 144A/ Regulation S initial public offerings, private placements, and rights issues in Malaysia. His mergers and acquisitions experience includes advising on the acquisition, disposal and joint venture and collaboration between companies across different industries. His corporate advisory experience includes advising on the global restructuring exercises of several multinational corporations.

Justin's noteworthy transactions include advising on the IPO of the largest home improvement retailer in Malaysia on the Main Market of Bursa Securities, the US$12 billion merger of two telecommunications companies in Malaysia, the IPO of the largest credit reporting agency in Malaysia on the Main Market of Bursa Securities, the US$28 billion joint venture between two national oil and gas companies on a refinery and petrochemical project in Malaysia, the public listing of the first stapled securities (comprising real estate investment trust units and shares) in Malaysia and several private placements and rights issues of the largest financial institutions in Malaysia. He also recently advised a Malaysian company in obtaining registration from the Securities Commission Malaysia as one of the first initial exchange offering operators in Malaysia.

He is recognized as a Rising Star in asialaw. In The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, Justin is described by clients as someone who "is directly involved in all of our transactions wherein major issues or pushbacks arise from the other party, is always available and has the knowledge to ensure that the issues are resolved."

  • Advising CIMB Investment Bank Berhad, Maybank Investment Bank Berhad, Aminvestment Bank Berhad, Kenanga Investment Bank Berhad and RHB Investment Bank Berhad in respect of the RM 720 million private placement of new REIT units by Pavilion REIT.
  • Advising Petronas Chemicals Group Berhad on selling a strategic stake in Petronas Chemicals Fertiliser Sabah Sdn Bhd to SMJ Sdn Bhd.
  • Acting as the underwriters' counsel for the IPO and listing of DXN Holdings Bhd.
  • Advising Kapital DX Sdn Bhd in obtaining registration from the Securities Commission Malaysia as one of the first initial exchange offering operators in Malaysia.
  • Acting as the underwriters' counsel for the IPO and listing of Aurelius Technologies Berhad.
  • Acting for Axiata Group Berhad in respect of the US$12 billion merger of the telecommunication operations of Celcom Axiata Berhad and Digi.com Berhad.
  • Acting as the issuer's counsel for the IPO and listing of CTOS Digital Berhad on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad.
  • Advising JPMorgan Securities (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, J.P. Morgan Securities PLC and Maybank Investment Bank Berhad in respect of the RM 1.77 billion private placement by PETRONAS of its existing shares in MISC Berhad.
  • Advising AmInvestment Bank Berhad, CIMB Investment Bank Berhad, Credit Suisse Securities (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Credit Suisse (Singapore) Limited, Hong Leong Investment Bank Berhad, JPMorgan Securities (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, J.P. Morgan Securities plc, Kenanga Investment Bank Berhad, Maybank Investment Bank Berhad, RHB Investment Bank Berhad, UBS AG, Singapore Branch and UBS Securities Malaysia Sdn Bhd as the underwriters' counsel for the IPO and listing of MR D.I.Y. Group (M) Berhad on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad.
  • Advising JPMorgan Securities (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, J.P. Morgan Securities PLC and Maybank Investment Bank Berhad in respect of the RM 996.8 million private placement by PETRONAS of its existing stapled securities in KLCCP Stapled Group.
  • Advising PETRONAS in respect of its US$28 billion Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) petrochemicals project in Malaysia involving refinery, cracker, and multiple downstream joint venture projects in Malaysia.
  • Advising Bunge Limited in respect of its US$946 million acquisition of a substantial interest in IOI Loders Croklaan, a Netherlands-based oils and fats producing firm, from IOI Corporation Berhad.
  • Advising Daimler AG on the global reorganisation of its worldwide business into three divisions – Mercedes-Benz Cars & Vans, Daimler Trucks & Buses and Daimler Mobility.
  • Acting as the issuer's counsel for the IPO and listing of Lotte Chemical Titan Holding Berhad on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad.
  • Acting for Ranhill Holdings Berhad (now known as Ranhill Utilities Berhad) in relation to a scheme of arrangement involving Symphony House Berhad and the public offering and listing of Ranhill Holdings Berhad the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad.
  • Advising CIMB Investment Bank Berhad, Credit Suisse (Singapore) Limited and Merrill Lynch (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. in respect of the RM 3.55 billion private placement of new ordinary shares by CIMB Group Holdings Berhad.
  • Advising KLCC Real Estate Investment Trust in conjunction with the listing of its stapled securities (comprising the stapling of ordinary shares in KLCC Property Holdings Berhad and units in KLCC Real Estate Investment Trust) on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad, it being the first issue of its kind in Malaysia.
  • Advising Maybank Investment Bank Berhad and UBS AG, Singapore Branch in respect of the RM 3.7 billion private placement of new ordinary shares by Malayan Banking Berhad.
