AI Strategy
Christopher & Lee Ong (“CLO”) recognises artificial intelligence and Generative AI (“Gen AI”) (together referred to as “AI”) as technologies likely to shape the future of the legal industry. While we seek to harness AI to enhance the delivery of our services, we remain committed to keeping our stakeholders informed and confident in our responsible use of AI.
Our AI Strategy
CLO approves the use of AI with the objective of delivering better services to our clients, enhancing operational efficiency, and enriching the working environment for our people. Our strategy is centred on equipping our teams with the knowledge, skills, and tools to integrate AI effectively into their work, while upholding ethical standards, safeguarding data privacy, and maintaining appropriate human oversight.
We prioritise AI solutions that are tailored to the needs of our clients, ensuring that technology enhances – rather than replaces – the expertise of our lawyers and business professionals, and strengthens the value we deliver to clients.
Our approval of AI is grounded in responsibility, supported by the following safeguards:
- Policy and Governance: Our use of AI is guided by our internal Policy on Responsible Use of Generative AI (“Policy”), which covers key areas such as data protection and privacy, transparency, human oversight, and accountability.
- Security and Privacy: We review and evaluate each AI solution before approval to ensure information security and data privacy. In addition, we require commitments from AI solution providers that our confidential data, including client information, will not be used for foundation model training, will not be shared with third parties without approval, and will only be processed for the specific purposes agreed with CLO.
- CLO-Approved AI Solutions: Access to public AI solutions by our people is restricted. The Policy expressly prohibits the use and entry of any non-public client information or personal data into AI solutions that have not been approved by CLO.
- Human Oversight and Accountability: We ensure that AI-generated content remains subject to human oversight, and that all AI-generated outputs are reviewed and validated by a human before they are relied upon. Human expertise and judgment shall govern all final work products.
- Training and Awareness: We provide training to our people on the Policy to promote responsible and efficient AI use, while building awareness of its associated risks and benefits.
Future-ready Workforce
We are committed to upskilling our people by equipping them with the knowledge and expertise needed to harness the potential of AI. Through continuous investment in training and development, we are building a future-ready workforce that can leverage AI responsibly to drive innovation and deliver enhanced services to our clients.
Further Information
This statement reaffirms our commitment to transparency in the use of technology, as well as our dedication to safeguarding data security and maintaining the quality of our services.
Issues with our use of AI
We will endeavour to ensure that approved AI solutions have appropriate safeguards for information security.
