Robert is a Consultant in CLO’s Dispute Resolution & Litigation Practice Group
Robert is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science of the University of London. He was called to the Bar of the Middle Temple and admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 19 September 1980. In his more than 45 years of practice, he has undertaken litigation at all levels of the Malaysian court system. Robert has also sat as and appeared as counsel in several arbitrations.
His practice consists mainly of commercial and general litigation, with a particular focus on contract and tort-based disputes. Robert has the distinction of having appeared as counsel at a constitutional tribunal in 1989, established to consider the removal of superior court judges, and he has also appeared as counsel in a Royal Commission of Inquiry set up to investigate allegations relating to judicial appointments. He has also appeared in the only reported case of the Special Court set up pursuant to Article 182 of the Federal Constitution, in which he acted for a commercial bank against a sitting sovereign.
He regularly undertakes first-instance trials of a complex nature and appears before the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court.
Robert has been the General Editor of two publications by Sweet & Maxwell: Law & Practice of Injunctions in Malaysia (2020) and ‘Law and Practice of Civil Litigation in Malaysia’ (2022).
